Convention Update: just under three weeks to go… and more dealers than previous years!

As we write this, the 2023 Blackpool Film Collectors’ Convention is under three weeks away and we’re busy making the final preparations for what promises to be a fantastic Convention weekend. We’re delighted to announce that we have had more film dealer bookings than in recent years so the Film Fair on Sunday 26th November will be one you don’t want to miss.

The Convention weekend at The Grand Hotel, Blackpool, starts on Friday 24th with the Friday night feature film. This year, in honour of the 100th anniversary of the launch of the 16mm film gauge, we will projecting a full feature on 16mm: the Friday night film show starts at 8pm.

Saturday is given over to the all day cinema where a selection of shorts and cut-downs will be projected on either the Super 8 or 16mm film gauges. It starts at 10am and runs until 4pm and is free of charge to come. You are welcome to bring a film to be projected.

Saturday night is the famous Film Collectors’ Dinner. Splendid food, a challenging film quiz, and a fabulous raffle with some fantastic prizes again this year which include a B & H TQIII 16mm projector, and features and short films on the Super 8 and 16mm film gauges. The evening concludes with the Convention Dinner film show and this year’s is curated by Norwegian film collector Kurt Jensen. The price for the three-course meal is £26 per person and, at the time of writing, there are still some places left. To book, contact Adrian Winchester on adrianw_8-16@tiscali.co.uk, or call 020 8656 0168 (+44 20 8656 0168 from outside the UK).

The Film Fair opens on Sunday at 10am. In addition to a record number of film dealers in recent years, there is a bring-and-buy stall (feel free to bring films and film-related equipment and memorabilia to sell), and Super 8 and 16mm film shows throughout the day put together by Convention co-organisers David Watson and Mark Norton. There will also be an auction – again, feel free to submit films to be included, and a Q & A session with Ged Jones – former director of Derann Film Services – returning for his second year and again hosted by Adrian Winchester.
