Friday, Saturday & Sunday Film Screenings

Seeing real, celluloid film projected is a rarity these days, but not at the convention! Film screenings take place throughout the whole convention weekend at the Grand Hotel.

Friday 14th November 2025, 8pm

The Convention weekend kicks off with our Friday Night Feature… this year projected on 35mm by Nigel Lister. The programme typically includes a variety of shorts, cartoons and trailers in addition to the main feature film. It’s completely free of charge to attend – just turn up.

Saturday 15th November 2025, 10am – 4pm

Throughout Saturday we hold an All-day Cinema with a difference – you supply the films we project. We’ll have super 8, 16mm and even 35mm projectors on hand to project your amusing shorts, trailers, adverts… anything you think will amuse, entertain and delight the audience.

The Saturday all-day cinema films are screened by a team of volunteer projectionists – hand them your film and they’ll do their best to include it. Or, simply kick back and enjoy what’s on the screen. Like the Friday night feature, entry to the all-day cinema is free of charge; stay for the whole day or dip in and out at your leisure.

Snacks and drinks can be obtained from the hotel’s bar on the first floor.

Saturday 15th November 2025, approx. 10.30pm

A Film Show concludes the Film Collectors’ Dinner and for the past few years has been put together by a collector; this year’s will be courtesy of Colin Tolman who will be sharing some gems from his own collection.

The easiest way to attend is to book a place at the Dinner as the show takes place after the meal. However, those not in attendance at the meal are welcome to join us just for the film screening; we cannot guarantee the start time but there will be a short break after the dinner when you will be able to gain admittance.

Sunday 16th November 2025, from 10am

There are two presentations that that take place during Sunday’s Film Fair, lasting about 50 minutes each: one in the morning and one in the afternoon, expertly compiled by members of the Convention organising team. The exact times will be published in the Film Fair programme. Entry to the Film Fair is £6.

We will also be hosting the Film is Fabulous! digital presentation of lost and recently recovered film prints of TV programmes – Missing Episodes at Blackpool – taking place at 2.30pm.

Sunday 16th November 2025, 8pm

In the early 2000s, Pete Travers and other collectors staying at the nearby Collingwood Hotel started an informal Sunday evening Super 8 show in the hotel lounge, watching movies purchased at the convention. We revived the tradition in 2024, calling it The Collingwood Show as a nod to the show’s origins. It’s a relaxed and fitting way to round off the weekend.

Feel free to bring a Super 8 or 16mm purchase (up to 20 minutes) and we’ll do our best to screen it.  Phil Slater is chief projectionist, and entry is free of charge. The Collingwood Show takes place in the hotel’s Trafalgar Suite cinema, which is where the two Film Fair shows take place.
